At IRT, we are focused on driving sustainable outcomes for our residents, our associates and the neighborhoods we serve as we seek to maximize long-term value for our investors. We believe that operating multifamily real estate communities can be conducted with a conscious regard for the environment and wider society while also benefiting our business success and long-term value creation for our residents, associates and investors. We seek to adopt policies and enact practices that are environmentally friendly and socially responsible.



This report covers our progress in 2023 related to our sustainability strategy and management of the ESG risks and opportunities most relevant to IRT’s business. We have aligned our report with the accounting standards published by the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), now part of the International Financial Reporting Standards Foundation (IFRS Foundation), related to the real estate industry. We also have identified the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that we believe best align with our business activities and the key priority areas in which we feel we can have the most impact. Unless otherwise noted, all quantitative data provided for IRT throughout this report covers our fiscal year 2023 (FY2023), reflecting data for the period from January 1 through December 31, 2023.

  • We are committed to providing our associates with comprehensive health insurance and prescription coverage, as well as access to mental health resources. Our Value-Add Program aims to improve the environmental quality of our residential communities, positively impacting our residents’ health and wellbeing.

IRT’s Contribution

  • The IRT Women Mentor Program seeks to help associates who identify as women develop their careers and build a professional network of women. The Forum of Executive Women named IRT a 2023 Champion of Board Diversity.

  • We offer safety-related courses through IRT University that are accessible to all associates. All office and maintenance team members undergo safety training upon hire and monthly thereafter to ensure continuous learning. We also provide courses, training and tuition assistance to further our associates’ professional growth and advancement.

Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable
IRT’s Contribution

  • We are committed to ensuring we provide the highest standard of fair housing in our residence communities. We supplement that commitment with investment in community partner organizations whose missions seek to provide safe and reliable homes to all. IRT’s apartment locations offer convenient access to public transit. We also evaluate access to public education and public transit when deciding to acquire a new multifamily community.
