Our governance focus is on maintaining a diverse, independent and highly functioning Board of Directors and a strong governance structure with a robust set of corporate governance principles. We review our governance structure annually to keep up with emerging trends.

We believe that Board oversight of risk management is crucial to the long term success of our organization. We monitor all risk areas in our business regularly through mechanisms such as risk heat maps and discuss our risk assessments with the Board on a regular basis.

This report covers our progress in 2021 related to our ESG strategy and goals. We have aligned our report with the accounting standards published by the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) related to the real estate industry. We promote the health and well-being of our associates through the fair labor practice, robust associate benefits, and a focus on employee safety. We promote the health and well-being of our residents by offering enhanced resident amenities and a pleasant living environment.

We are committed to gender pay equity and to supporting our IRT Women through a robust resource group and mentoring program. We also have enacted domestic violence policies which support both our associates and our residents who are experiencing domestic violence, an issue which disproportionately effects females.

We promote sustained and inclusive economic growth within our organization through our associate training and development platforms, our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and our robust employee benefits. We promote sustained and inclusive economic growth outside our organization through the responsible engagement of vendors and our support of non-profit organizations who fight homelessness, such as Shelters to Shutters.

We operate inclusive, safe and resilient apartment communities which offer residents access to good schools and enhanced amenities and are located to nearby employment centers. We are focused on reducing risks within our communities and enhancing their disaster resiliency. Our rigorous adherence to fair housing laws ensure our communities remain inclusive and accessible to prospective residents.
